MIG welding is more commonly known as the Metal Inert Gas welding process. It's scientific name, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) is a welding process that incorporates the automatic feeding of a continuous, consumable wire electrode that is shielded by an externally supplied gas. Carbon dioxide, a mix of argon and carbon dioxide or an argon-oxygen mix are common shielding gases used for this process.
The MIG welding process also produces high quality welds like the TIG welding process, has all position welding capability, and can be used on materials of various types and thickness. The welds are also very clean with no slag and low spatter. |
